Science is the study of what makes the world work.
 
Religious belief, of which there are many "beliefs", for the purpose of this comparison, is strictly the belief (an untested hypothesis) that answers why we humans are here.
 
Intelligent Design has elements of both. (1) It studies observable data (science) trying to figure out how the world works. (2) All the missing gaps of observable data explained by untested hypothesis is religious belief trying to explain "why we are here" as humans.
